SprayGel has several design features that contribute to its excellent biocompatibility.

High water content
SprayGel is over 90% water, unlike most other implant materials. This greatly reduces the tissue response seen in other "dense" biomaterials.
PEG Chemistry
Of the solids present, over 98% are polyethylene glycol (PEG). PEG is one of the safest known materials used in medicine.
Synthetic Chemistry
Due to its synthetic nature, PEG is a poor food source for bacteria, thus reducing the risk of bacterial potentiation or virus transmission.
Non-Exothermic
No detectible heat is released during the reaction of SprayGel, resulting in normal tissue temperatures.
Safe Hydrolysis
During absorption, hydrolysis releases free PEG with few acidic end groups, thus minimizing or eliminating local pH changes.
Complete Clearance
PEG clearance from body, primarily through the kidneys, has been widely documented.
Clinical Safety
SprayGel has been evaluated in two clinical trials in gynecological surgery where no Adverse Events were positively attributed to the device.
